Home of Champions equips discharged foster youth with the resources necessary to become the leaders and entrepreneurs off tomorrow and have a sustainable impact on our communities.
Home of Champions works to develop a challenging and supportive home-base where discharged foster youth have access to opportunities, resources, and mentoring to live an active, consistent, and sustained lifestyle. We help our youth develop the attitude necessary to become the responsible leaders, change makers and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
Our story
There are over 400,000 youth in the foster care system in the U.S., many of whom do not finish high school. Additionally, a staggering number of foster youth go on to become homeless and/or incarcerated after they age out of the foster care system. Home of Champions is here to put an end to that.
We believe the best way to cultivate leadership and prepare younger generations for future challenges is to develop the right character and skills. At Home of Champions, we encourage our youth to have self-confidence and empower them to create goals for the future, using positive feedback and imagination.
Our goal is to reduce the percentage of unemployed, homeless, and incarcerated foster youth and to support them in their journey towards independence and success by continuing the legacy of this historic property – a property where World Champion boxers such as Mohammad Ali, Ingemar Johansson, and Tracy Patterson’s tenacious spirit and perseverance were witnessed first-hand.
we’re determined to help with
We are converting our historic location into the Home of Champions Community Center, which will house leadership, holistic health, and creative arts seminars.
Our program is the only of its kind to offer leadership development for foster care children.
Our primary goal is to reduce the percentage of unemployed, homeless, and incarcerated foster youth in New York State as a result of the completion of the facility and equipping youth with the tools necessary to become responsible leaders.
Located on the former estate of two-time world heavyweight champion, Floyd Patterson, and training camp for Muhammad Alia and Ingemar Johannson, Home of Champions is the only New York State program that screens disadvantaged youth for leadership and ability, and provides support and guidance. We equip discharged foster youth with the skills and resources necessary to adopt the same tenacious spirit and perseverance these champions embodied.
Motivated candidates are selected for our program.
Students will learn basic life skills and learn to live within our community.
Mentorships and transitional support is established for program attendees.
Home of Champions is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a mission to proide a “home base” for New York City and New York state youth ages 16-24 who are emerging from the foster care system. We aim to provide opportunities, resources, and mentoring as well as help foster youth to live an active, consistent and sustained lifestlye.
To do this, we need your help. We need to make improvements to our facility in New Paltz, New York – a historic location that was the former home of and training facility for heavyweight boxing world champion. Our goal is to convert the boxing and training facility into the Home of Champions Community Center, which will house leadership, holistic health, and creative arts seminars. This renovation will come at a sizeable cost, so we are looking for your support.
